In an opposite situation, someone could be a consultant, even without showing this at their badge. His work, in principle, is to influence those who work beside him; he was hired to do exactly this: to influence people upon request.
Over time, the hirer and the hired will forget what led to that hiring and the characteristics of the function will be away from the original motivations.
